RFID Active Tags

Active RFID tags have their own battery, so they can transmit over a longer range than passive tags. They are used where people, vehicles or assets must be detected from a distance — for example yard, vehicle or container tracking — rather than read at close range.

Our RFID Active Tags are of high quality and long lasting. These tags have an in- built power source (battery), and an antenna and a chip. These tags are very useful in application where long range reading of tags with high precision is required.

Active vs Passive RFID

Active tags

Battery-powered and longer range. Larger and costlier; battery life depends on how often the tag transmits.

Passive tags

No battery: powered by the reader’s field. Smaller, lower cost and shorter range — labels, cards, wristbands and key tags.

Tell BSD Infotech the distance, the objects and the environment, and we will recommend active or passive tags with the right readers.

Frequently Asked Questions

An active tag has its own built-in power source (battery) along with an antenna and chip, unlike passive tags which draw power from the reader's signal.
The onboard battery gives active tags much longer read range and higher precision, making them the right choice where passive tags can't reliably be read from a distance.
Yes, they're built to be high quality and long-lasting, suited to demanding long-range tracking applications.
Use active RFID when tags must be detected from a distance or while moving, such as vehicles or containers. For close-range reading of cards, labels or wristbands, passive RFID is simpler and cheaper.
It depends on the tag model and how often it transmits. Battery life is confirmed for the specific tag chosen for your project.
