A business mobile application is often more than an app installed on a phone. Depending on the requirement, the solution may include:

BSD Infotech designs the application architecture around the complete business requirement — not only the screens on the phone.

Android

Applications for Android smartphones and tablets, according to the project’s requirements — including apps that work with the phone’s camera, NFC or connected readers.

iOS

Applications for iPhone and iPad, according to the project’s requirements.

Apps built by our team are live on both stores — 13 on Google Play and 11 on the App Store. The same application can be delivered on Android and iOS where the project needs both. Supported platforms, devices and features are confirmed during requirement analysis — an app does not automatically behave identically on every device.

Field & workforce apps

Apps for field staff, guards, conductors, dealers, sales teams and other mobile users.

Business transaction apps

Order capture, registrations, data entry, billing and other operational workflows.

Data capture apps

Capturing information in the field through forms, the camera, barcodes and, where supported, RFID/NFC.

Attendance & identification

Attendance and identification workflows using a card, a photo or a fingerprint, where the project requires it.

School & campus apps

Administrator, guard, conductor and parent apps, and screening and crowd-control workflows.

Membership & club apps

Member bookings, bills, profiles and feedback, and ordering by waiters or members.

Retail & barcode apps

Barcode-based stock, dispatch and pickup workflows on Android phones.

Transport apps

Conductor and passenger workflows alongside smart card ticketing.

Custom business apps

If the requirement does not fit a standard product, we design the app around your workflow.

Many business mobile applications need a management layer. A typical architecture:

Mobile appfield or business users
▼
API
▼
Business logic
▼
Database
▼
Web dashboard / admin paneladministration · reports · configuration · master data · monitoring

The web application handles administration, reports, configuration, master data and monitoring, while the mobile app is used by field or business users. For example, in a school safety solution BSD Infotech designed a web application that imports master data from the school’s existing ERP through APIs, with two user layers: administrators who see every route and gate on the dashboard, and mobile app users who see only their own route or gate.

See also web application development and custom software development.

A mobile application often needs to exchange data with other systems, such as an existing ERP, CRM or HR system, databases, web applications, payment systems, business applications, third-party APIs and hardware-connected applications. In BSD Infotech’s project work this has included:

  • Importing student, class, bus and route master data from a school’s existing ERP through APIs
  • SMS integration to notify parents at pick-up and drop-off, and SMS in regional languages mapped by state for a loyalty-scheme app
  • Payment gateway integration in membership and field-sales applications — see payment gateway integration
  • A centralized database with APIs used by Android apps for barcode-based workflows

Specific integrations are confirmed for each project, based on the systems and APIs available.

BSD Infotech combines software with barcode, RFID, NFC, smart card, biometric and camera-based data capture. Examples of how a mobile app can work with hardware:

Camera → barcode

Mobile app → phone camera → barcode → database.

NFC / RFID card

Mobile app → NFC or RFID card → API → business application.

Identification

Mobile app → card, photo or fingerprint identification → backend → dashboard.

Not every phone supports every RFID, NFC or biometric peripheral — compatibility depends on the device and the hardware, and is confirmed per project. See barcode solutions, NFC and contactless readers, NFC access control and smart card SDK and integration.

Implemented = delivered for a client; current capability = part of BSD’s current product scope; historical = earlier project; proposed = designed or proposed in project work.

BSD Infotech has worked on multi-user mobile ecosystems, not only single standalone apps. Examples of mobile application roles developed or proposed in BSD project work include:

Administrator appGuard appConductor appParent appExit (exeat) slip appScreening appsCrowd controlWeb dashboard for all users

These are not packaged products; the roles and features are defined for each institution. See school attendance and crowd control and smart card bus ticketing.

BSD’s club management software includes Android and iOS apps, order-by-mobile for waiters and members, a web module and payment gateway integration. Member-facing and operational workflows can include bookings, bills and payments, announcements, the member directory and profile, feedback, and mobile ordering. The app scope is configured according to each club’s requirements. See club management software and membership portal development.

BSD has developed or proposed mobile-enabled business workflows in which Android devices use their camera for barcode capture and connect to centralized business data. In one design, the phone’s camera reads the barcode, the data is stored in a centrally hosted database accessed through APIs, and a web application manages master data, transactions, user rights and reports.

Standalone mobile application

Suitable where the app performs its functions on the device or communicates with a limited service.

Connected business application

The app connects to a backend, APIs, a database, a web dashboard, an ERP or another business system.

The architecture depends on the business requirement — for example, a restaurant ordering app can be designed to connect to a database on the premises’ local Wi-Fi network rather than over the internet.

Mobile applications can be designed for, for example:

Field operationsWorkforce applicationsSales teamsOrder captureInventory and data captureBarcode workflowsAttendance workflowsSchool and campus operationsTransport operationsClub and membership appsVisitor and entry workflowsEvent operationsCashless and payment-related workflowsCustomer and member appsCustom enterprise workflows

Each is a possibility for a custom project, not an automatic feature.

  1. Requirement understanding
  2. Functional specification
  3. User experience and wireframes
  4. Application architecture
  5. Development
  6. Integration
  7. Testing and UAT
  8. Deployment and go-live
  9. Support and enhancements

We start by understanding the users, business process and workflows; define functions, roles and data in a functional specification; map screens in wireframes; design the mobile, backend, API, database and integration architecture; develop the Android/iOS app and its backend; connect APIs, databases, ERP or hardware; test on devices with user acceptance testing; set up masters, upload data and train users for go-live; and provide support and enhancements according to the agreed scope.

  • Mobile: Android and iOS apps, developed natively for Android or cross-platform with React Native or Flutter
  • Backend and APIs: .NET (Core) with C#, REST APIs and SQL Server — BSD Infotech has worked on .NET since 2005
  • Web dashboards: web applications and admin panels, including React where suitable

The technology for each project is chosen during requirement analysis.

Security requirements are considered during architecture and implementation, including authentication, user roles and role-based access, API access, data protection, secure communication and appropriate server and database controls. The specific measures are agreed for each project.

For many businesses the real requirement is: business process + mobile application + backend + database + API + admin dashboard + integration. BSD Infotech’s experience in customized software, web applications, databases and hardware/software integration lets us design the mobile app as part of the wider business solution.
