Touch and keyboard billing, kitchen order tickets, table-wise orders and stock, with the POS hardware to run it.
BSD Infotech provides restaurant POS software for billing, table operations, KOT, menu and item management, taxes, payments, inventory and reporting, with configurable workflows and POS hardware integration. It is used in restaurants, cafes, quick service outlets and club restaurants, and can be extended with smart card, NFC and cashless payment where a venue needs it.
Tell us your type of outlet, number of counters and outlets, whether you bill by table or at the counter, and what hardware you already have. We will arrange a demo and suggest a configuration.
A restaurant POS differs from general retail billing in how orders move. An order is taken for a table or a counter, the kitchen is told what to prepare through a KOT, and the bill is settled later, sometimes split between guests. BSD’s restaurant POS is built around that flow, and connects it to menus, taxes, stock and reports.
GST-compliant bills from a touch screen or keyboard, with split billing, discounts and non-chargeable (NC) bills.
Kitchen order tickets printed at the kitchen, and bar order tickets (BOT) at the bar where configured.
A table master, with orders and bills kept against each table, or direct counter sales without a table.
Item and category masters with prices, used for billing and printing.
A tax master applied to bills, for GST invoicing.
A customer master, offers and discounts, and a loyalty programme where used.
A waiter master and user logins, so orders and bills can be linked to staff.
Stock tracked alongside billing, with purchase management.
Sales, tax, user and stock reports at the outlet, and online where configured.
Touch POS terminals, receipt and KOT printers, cash drawers and more, supplied by BSD.
Cash, credit card and debit card sales, with multiple settlement types.
Stored-value smart cards and NFC ordering for clubs, campuses and controlled venues, where required.
At the billing counter, the cashier builds the bill from the item buttons, and the tax is applied from the tax master. The same system supports touch-screen and keyboard (non-touch) billing, so a busy counter can use whichever is faster.
For billing outside restaurants, see billing software.
We can demo restaurant billing with your items and taxes.
For dine-in restaurants, tables are defined in a table master, and each order is kept against its table until the bill is settled. Quick-service counters can bill without tables at all.
Each table has a number or name in the table master, defined to match your layout. Rooms can be defined in the same way for hotels and clubs.
Items ordered for a table accumulate against it, with KOTs sent to the kitchen as items are added.
The table’s running order becomes its bill, which can be split between guests.
Direct sales without a table, for quick billing counters and take-away.
When an order is entered, a KOT is printed on the kitchen printer while the bill prints at the cashier’s printer. Bars can have a separate bar order ticket (BOT) so bar and kitchen orders stay apart. In larger solution designs, BSD has also used a tablet in the kitchen to update order status, and a kitchen display module showing orders as they arrive, where the project calls for it.
Waiters are defined in a waiter master, and orders and bills can be linked to the waiter or user who took them, where configured. Users log in with their own credentials, and access to screens can be controlled by role. In BSD solution designs, waiters take orders at the table on a tablet or NFC phone, and the order reaches the kitchen as a KOT without the waiter walking back to the counter.
Stock is tracked alongside billing, with purchase management, so you can see what has been sold and what needs reordering without a separate spreadsheet. Where a restaurant wants to track ingredients, a bill of materials (recipe) and inventory module has been offered as an optional add-on in BSD restaurant POS proposals, and is scoped per project. For stock control in depth, see restaurant inventory software and billing and inventory software.
| Payment | How it works at the POS | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Cash | Settled at the counter; cash drawer opens with the bill | All restaurants |
| Credit / debit card | Recorded as a card settlement type on the bill | All restaurants |
| Split payment | One bill divided between guests | Dine-in |
| Smart card (stored value) | Card read at the POS; the amount is deducted from its balance | Clubs, campuses, food courts, cafeterias |
| Member card | Magnetic, barcoded or smart card identifies the member and bills the account | Clubs and member venues |
Standard restaurant POS installations use cash and card. Smart card and cashless payment are a separate configuration, described next.
BSD has built smart card and stored-value payment workflows for food-service venues where cash at every counter is impractical. These can be configured for suitable environments:
BSD supplies both the software and the compatible hardware for a restaurant counter, so the POS, printers and drawer work together from day one. Models are chosen when you order, based on current availability.
For the full POS range, see restaurant POS hardware and software.
Useful where a restaurant also sells packaged items, or in bakeries and sweet shops: items with a barcode or SKU are scanned at billing and tracked in stock. See barcode solutions.
Used to identify a customer or member and to take cashless payments from a card, and for waiter ordering on NFC phones. Not needed for ordinary restaurant billing.
Daily and monthly sales, sales statistics, and item and category sales.
Bills and transactions for the day, with day and shift closing where configured.
Tax collected on bills, for GST.
Stock, purchases and what needs reordering.
Customer and loyalty information, where used.
Sales by user, and outlet-wise reports for multi-outlet or card-based setups.
Reports are viewed at the outlet, and online from a web back office where that option is taken. Additional reports can be developed to order.
BSD has provided POS for clubs running six or seven POS stations across restaurants, a bar, home delivery and bakery-style counters. Where the project architecture requires it, the POS can be configured for:
The POS runs at the outlet with its own local database, so billing continues without the internet.
Sales and reports viewed online from a cloud back office, including consolidated reports across restaurants.
Counters bill locally and data is pushed to the central server when connected, or at the end of the day.
Which modules are available offline depends on the deployment. In offline-first designs, billing continues while online reports update once the connection returns.
BSD has developed customised POS software for restaurants, clubs, food courts and other outlets, from quick billing counters to multi-module restaurant systems with waiter tablets and kitchen displays. Customisation is subject to technical feasibility and project requirements, and can cover:
