Canteen POS and Billing Software
At the counter, the operator selects items on a touch screen, the bill is totalled, and the customer pays in cash or from their card or wallet. An employee or student can present a smart card or other configured identifier; the system retrieves the account and records the transaction against it.

Cashless Canteen with Smart Card, NFC and QR
A cashless canteen replaces cash at the counter with an account that the user identifies with a card, tag, code or app. The exact identification and payment method depends on the project, and not every installation uses every method.
Smart card
A contactless card carries the user’s identity or stored value. It can also be the institution’s ID card, and can combine canteen use with access control or attendance.
NFC
NFC cards, tags or badges are read by an NFC reader attached to the POS, a tablet or a phone.
QR code
A QR code identifies the user or order where card readers are not used, as proposed in some solution designs.
Employee or student account
Purchases are recorded against an account and settled later, for example through payroll.
Wallet / e-purse
A prepaid balance, held on the card or in the central system, is debited for each purchase.
Cash alongside
Guests and visitors can still pay cash where the counter is configured for it.

Mobile Food Ordering for Campus Canteens
Where mobile ordering is part of the project, students or employees order from their phone and collect at the counter. BSD’s campus cafeteria workflow designs follow these steps:
Log in
The student or employee signs in to the ordering app.
Choose items
Items are selected and added to the cart.
Pay
Online payment where enabled, or deduction from the wallet.
Order generated
On successful payment, the order is created.
Order at the counter
It appears on the delivery counter’s screen.
Identify and collect
The user taps their smart card, or gives the order number, to fetch the order.
Deliver and update
The order is marked delivered and the record is updated.
Counter staff can cancel an order, including item-wise cancellation with a refund or deduction according to the agreed business rules. The same counter can also take direct card orders and cash orders from guests, where configured.
Mess and Prepaid Meal Management
For hostels and messes where meals are paid in advance, the counter checks each user’s meal status instead of taking payment. In BSD’s mess workflow designs, a smart card reader is connected to a phone or tablet, with a slip printer where required.
- A second visit for the same meal is denied, with an audible alert
- A user without a prepaid meal can pay at the counter and then collect
- Counter staff see pending coupons and mark them delivered
- Prepaid mess data can be imported from a spreadsheet, or pulled from an ERP through a chargeable integration
Multi-Counter and Multi-Canteen Operations
Larger sites may have several counters in one canteen, several canteens, or cafeterias and messes side by side. Solutions can be designed for deployments requiring multiple counters and high transaction volumes, subject to infrastructure and project configuration.

Smart Card Readers, NFC Readers and POS Hardware
BSD works on both the software and the hardware at the counter. The hardware is chosen for the counter type, the card technology and the number of users:

How Does a Cashless Canteen Work?
School and University Canteen Workflow
The same student card can be combined with broader campus solutions when required, such as NFC access control, attendance or library systems. Each module is scoped separately; not every project includes them all. For gate, classroom and bus attendance, see the school attendance system.
Corporate and Factory Canteen Workflow
For industrial canteens with shifts and subsidised meals, the controls that matter are entitlement rules, department limits, payroll settlement and reconciliation for finance and vendors. These are configured per site and depend on HR and payroll integration.
