Protection Box

A protection box houses access control electronics — such as a controller, power supply and backup battery — in a lockable metal enclosure, and a protective cover shields a reader or terminal from rain and tampering. BSD Infotech supplies both as part of access control installations.

Access control metal protection box and protective cover

Protection Options

Metal box

Keeps the controller, power supply and battery together on the secure side of the door, away from casual access.

Protective cover

Fits over a reader or terminal installed outdoors or in exposed places, reducing exposure to rain and physical damage.

Why It Matters

If wiring or electronics can be reached from outside the protected area, the door can be defeated. Placing the controller, relay and power supply inside a locked enclosure on the secure side — and using a security relay box where the terminal is mounted outside — keeps the system tamper-resistant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the metal box and protective cover are listed as separate accessory options for access control devices.
It is recommended. A lockable enclosure on the secure side keeps the controller, power supply and battery away from tampering and gives a neat, serviceable installation.
Readers rated for outdoor use can be installed outside; a protective cover adds protection from rain and damage. Check the reader’s rating, for example the KR500/KR600 readers are listed as IP64 or IP65.
