Electric Locks
Electric locks are the locking hardware of an access-controlled door. The access controller or terminal releases the lock when an authorised card, fingerprint or face is presented, and the door locks again after a set time. Types of Electric Locks
Electric strike
Replaces the strike plate in the door frame and releases the door latch on a signal from the controller. Strikes are available in fail-safe and fail-secure versions.
Electromagnetic (EM) lock
A magnet on the frame holds an armature plate fixed to the door. It holds while powered and releases when power is removed, so it opens during a power cut unless backed up.
Electric cabinet lock
For cabinets, drawers and lockers that need controlled or logged access rather than a key.
Brackets for EM locks
Mounting brackets that let an EM lock be fitted where the door or frame does not allow direct mounting, for example on glass or narrow frames.
Choosing the Right Lock
- Door type: wooden, metal, glass or framed glass doors need different locks and brackets.
- Fail-safe or fail-secure: decide whether the door must open or stay locked when power fails. Fire and evacuation rules on the site should be followed.
- Power and backup: the lock, reader and controller share a power supply; add battery backup where the door must keep working during outages.
- Exit and emergency: pair the lock with an exit button inside and an emergency break glass where required.
How an Electric Lock Fits into Access Control
Reader or biometric terminal → access controller (or standalone terminal) → relay output → electric lock. An exit button releases the door from inside, and a power supply with optional battery powers the system.
