The 4 Port RFID Reader (model RFID 401) is a fixed UHF RFID reader with four antenna ports. It connects one to four external antennas through TNC connectors, so one reader can cover a wide doorway from both sides, or several nearby zones. It reads 80–100 tags per second, at up to 15 m with a 12 dBi antenna.

What Is a 4 Port RFID Reader?
A 4 port RFID reader is a fixed reader with four antenna connectors. The reader does not have its own antenna. You connect one to four external antennas and place them where the tags will pass. This model, the RFID 401, supports EPC Class 1 Gen2 (ISO 18000-6C) and ISO 18000-6B tags, with frequency hopping (FHSS) and RF output adjustable from 0 to 30 dBm.
Its ports set it apart from BSD Infotech’s other UHF readers. Reader 85 and Reader 88 are single-point readers, and Reader 107 is a desktop unit. The 4 Port Reader lets one controller serve several antennas. Range depends on the antenna you choose: up to 8 m with an 8 dBi antenna and up to 15 m with a 12 dBi antenna. It has an IP40 protection grade and is wall mountable, so the reader itself suits indoor mounting.

How the 4 Port Reader Fits Into an RFID Solution
An RFID reader on its own does not track anything. It is one part of a system: tags on the items, an antenna, the reader, software, and the database or business application where the records live.
The 4 Port Reader’s role: it is a multi-antenna read point.
