The ACS ACR40U is a compact USB contact smart card reader made by ACS (Advanced Card Systems Ltd.) and supplied by BSD Infotech across India. It reads and writes ISO 7816 Class A, B and C contact smart cards, microprocessor cards using the T=0 and T=1 protocols, and memory cards. The ACR40U smart card reader comes with a USB Type-A or USB Type-C connector, and in two configurations: Standard (flat and compact) and Premium (with a stand for upright or horizontal use). It is CCID and PC/SC compliant, and ACS lists driver support for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android and Solaris.

Type-A and Type-C are not different reader technologies. Both are the same ACR40U contact smart card reader; only the USB connector on the cable differs. Choose Type-A for standard USB-A ports and Type-C for laptops, tablets and devices with USB-C ports. Part numbers are as listed in ACS’s ACR40U technical specifications.

ACR40U Operating System Support
ACS lists device-driver support for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android and Solaris. The ACR40U is a USB CCID device, but the driver or software package you need depends on the operating system and on your application:
- Windows, Linux and macOS: ACS PC/SC driver installers (see Drivers and Downloads below).
- Android: ACS Android EVK, listed by ACS for Android 3.1 or above.
- iOS and iPadOS: ACS lists its ApduTool (iOS) utility for iOS and iPadOS 16.2 or above, on the ACS product page.
Your own software must also support the reader (for example through PC/SC). If you are unsure whether the ACR40U will work with your application or platform, check with us before ordering.
